ChoiceTrust Work History, Insurance and Public Record Reports

choice point work history report, choice point loss history, choice point insurance, employer background checksEver wonder what people are saying about you behind your back? Well, thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act you can now have the “fly on the wall” advantage that allows you to see and hear what is being said. You may find out that your landlord, past employers, creditors, banker, favorite department stores, hospital, and insurance company have all had lots to tell each other about you. Is what they are saying accurate? If it is not you may be paying more for insurance then you should and missing other economic related opportunities. It could affect how much you pay for insurance, if you get the job you want, or if you get in to the apartment you like.

Credit reports are only half the conversation.
Even before the Great Recession of 2008 hit we were talking about credit reports and their impact on our ability to get loans, larger credit lines, and lower mortgage rates. What lenders say about you, as documented on your credit report, carries a lot of weight. If you never see your credit report you will not have any idea what is being said about you. The same is true about your employment verification records, tenant history record, and your insurance loss history report. If there is false or inaccurate information on these you may be paying more for less and missing opportunities. In addition to information provided by credit bureaus there is another company compiling telling information about you of which you should be aware.

Who is ChoiceTrust and why do they sell my information?
There are many reasons to be aware of who and what ChoiceTrust is. Privacy concerns would be one, as well as, personal finance reasons. According to the ChoiceTrust website, “ChoiceTrust is a website owned by LexisNexis. Through ChoiceTrust, consumers can order reports about themselves and can order certain reports on other people such as prospective caretakers, contractors, and physicians. The reports made available through ChoiceTrust are prepared and provided by various LexisNexis entities.” They can also provide reports to employers, landlords, and insurance companies regarding your past insurance claims, rental history, and employment history.
The economic opportunities presented or closed to you will often result from what your financially related history says about you. ChoiceTrust is eager to sell that information through their website. Having accurate and fair reports about your economic activity can determine if you get insurance and how much it will cost, if you get the apartment or home you want, or if your home will sell.

What is a loss history report?
Also known as C.L.U.E. reports (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) these reports are provided to insurers so that they can evaluate your past insurance claims. These reports become part of an insurer’s own formula for determining your rates and insurability. Obviously, just like with credit reports, you would want to insure that the information on an insurance loss history report is correct. For more information on loss history reports and where the information found on the reports comes from read the article "Checking Your Records" found on this site.

Checking your own reports
Due to the rights you have through the Fair Credit Reporting Act you may view the same reports about you that anyone else can. You can get a free work history report and other reports. On the ChoiceTrust website you can order a personal records search, your home insurance score (based on Equifax credit report), your C.LU.E. personal property report, your C.L.U.E. auto report, your AUTO insurance score (based on Equifax credit report, home seller’s disclosure report, tenant history report, and employment history report.

Additionally, you may order reports to check backgrounds and public records for businesses and individuals such as nannies, tutors, pet sitters, contractors, house cleaners, home nurses, and other services given access to your home. You can also conduct a credential check on doctors, chiropractors, or dentists. All reports and checks have a cost to you.

Finally, keep in mind that ChoiceTrust sells your information to marketers. If you are not happy with having your information sold to marketing firms you can opt out. Go here to opt out.

Additionally, if you are a law enforcement officer, publicly elected official, or victim of identity theft you may opt out of public facing products. That means that individuals can not order background checks or other telling information about you.
