"Cash For Appliances" heating rebates in Pennsylvania and other incentives

Utility companies in Pennsylvania, such as Duquesne Light and Allegheny Power, are offering various rebates on energy efficient appliances, home upgrades and lighting.April 21, 2010 was the first day to file for your Cash For Appliances rebate in Pennsylvania. (Some of us refer to this as the cash for clunker appliances program!) There is $11 million set aside for PA residents and rebate forms are available online. Note that in Pennsylvania our rebates are specifically for high efficiency home heating equipment such as a water heater or furnace. You can get more information at the bottom of this page. There is no rebate offered by Pennsylvania for ovens, refrigerators, etc. There are other rebates available elsewhere though, such as Duquesne Light's Watt Choices program and other incentives.   Click here to find your utility company's rebate program.

There are a variety of rebates available to customers. Some have expiration dates so you should check the websites soon for the rebates you may qualify for. Both companies are offering a refrigerator recycling program, and Allegheny Power is also offering the incentive for recycling old freezers and room air conditioners. A number is also listed that you can call in order to arrange the free pickup and hauling of your old appliance. You will be paid $35.00 for the old refrigerator. All appliances must still be working in order to be eligible for the credit. Allegheny Power pays $25.00 for room size air conditioners and $35 for freezers.

Has anyone taken advantage of the energy rebates offered by Allegheny Power and Duquesne Light? Act 129 was signed into law two years ago in PA. It requires utility companies, two of which are Allegheny Power and Duquesne Light, to progressively reduce electricity usage through 2013. In order to incentivize their customers to consume less energy, both Allegheny Power and Duquesne Light are offering an array of rebates for energy efficient appliance purchases. Additionally, Duquesne Light offers rebates for making energy efficient upgrades to your home.

Pennsylvania Cash For Appliances Rebate Amount

Pennsylvania has received a grand total of .9 Million from the government to support the Pennsylvania cash for appliances rebate program. They receive more than most states due to their large population. With cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania has one of the largest populations in the country. For this reason, they receive a larger portion of the 0 Million designated to pay for the cash for appliances rebate program. The government has put together various programs to help stimulate the economy, and most of those programs deal with pumping more money into the local economies. This definitely helps to circulate more money in those economies which in turn helps increase revenues and cash flow. For now, these are the programs the government has decided to implement to help boost our economy and pull us out of the recession.

Many debate the options we could pursue to pull us out of a recession. Most people will realize the best way to improve the economy is to provide more jobs and the best way to provide more jobs is to produce and create more. If you were to go back in time a few decades, the way countries made money was by producing resources from the land they owned. If the land you lived in and the land you owned provided more resources than other countries, you were the richest country in the world. The United States of America has many resources to offer and these resources could easily pull us out of our recession. If we were to drill for oil, extract natural gas, farm more land for food, and build nuclear power plants we would produce enough resources to cover the country’s needs with plenty of resources to spare. We would have a lot to export to help boost the amount of money we make from sales to other countries. By producing more of what this land has to offer, we would provide millions of new jobs and produce energy resources that are expensive and highly valuable in the world. Every other country in the world would do what environmentalists in our country won’t allow. Every other country will mine and drill until they’ve extracted all the resources their land has to offer so they can provide and export everything they can.

Since our land is off limits due to all the restrictions created by environmentalists, we have to develop other ways to overcome the energy crisis. By motivating everyone to buy brand new, energy efficient appliances, the government will help replace all of the old appliances with the new models. The new models will decrease the amount of energy we consume by a large percentage. If everyone were to replace their old appliances with the new energy star certified appliances, we would see possibly a fifty percent drop in energy consumption. This type of drop would rocket propel our economy up to where it once was. Every family would have more money to spend with this rebate and with the savings they see every month from reduced energy consumption.  http://www.pennsylvaniacashforappliances.com/

From the PA Heating Rebates website:

Almost half of your home energy consumption goes toward heating and water heating — more than any other appliance or fixture. That’s why Pennsylvania is offering an incentive for you to upgrade your heating equipment for energy cost savings.

Starting April 21, 2010, residents of Pennsylvania will be eligible to receive rebates for the purchase of qualifying high efficiency home heating equipment. Qualifying products will be non-electric ENERGY STAR-qualified water heaters, furnaces, and boilers.

Funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the Pennsylvania Home Heating Equipment Rebate Program offers rebates to Pennsylvania residents in existing single-family homes to encourage energy efficient product purchases and save energy throughout the state.

The Pennsylvania Home Heating Equipment Rebate program offers rebates only for heating equipment. If you are looking for appliance rebates such as clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, etc., please visit Tax Credits & Other Incentives for more information. Watt Watchers inquiries should be routed to the Allegheny Power programs website.

Looking for a qualifying gas storage water heater? Qualifying models are available, but may be special order items. Some contractors carry qualifying models in stock, or you may need to work with your contractor or retailer to order one. Please review the Frequently Asked Questions and Qualifying Product List for more detail.

Program Eligibility

  • Rebates are available only for Pennsylvania residents who live in single-family homes for the replacement of existing, operational equipment. Installations in multi-family or new construction buildings do not qualify
  • Reservations are required in order to receive a rebate; it is recommended that customers obtain a reservation prior to purchase to guarantee rebate availability
  • Only products that meet energy efficiency specifications qualify (see the Qualifying Products page for more information)
  • Qualifying products must be purchased on or after April 21, 2010. Purchases before that date do not qualify for rebates
  • Only one product per category per household address
  • Purchases must be within Pennsylvania and equipment must be installed by a state-registered contractor.  Please see the Pennsylvania Attorney General web site for a list of registered contractors
  • Contractors or other third parties are not eligible to receive rebates
  • Recycling of existing equipment is encouraged, otherwise disposal must be in compliance with state waste management requirements (see the Recycling & Links page for more information)
  •
  • Customers may not claim rebates from both statewide program and electric utility rebate programs
