A recent story about the key reasons for Cheryl Cole's 150% gain in wealth serves as a good lesson to anyone who wants to make more money at work. When was the last time you got a raise? When raises are given by employers they generally tend to be 3-6%. So how would you feel if your salary was increased by 150%? 26 year old Cheryl Cole was in the news this past week when it was reported that her earnings had increased 150% of the last year.

These phrases stick out when you read the article about Cheryl Cole:
“Working harder than ever”
“It doesn't matter where you come from”
“You can make it big if you keep trying”
“Drive and determination”
“Talent and drive”

There is no secret to making more money and anyone can do it. The hardest part is the hard work. It really doesn’t matter where you come from. What matters is that you demonstrate drive and determination to add value to your organization every day even if just in small contributions. When you go home the company that is paying you (either yours or your employer’s) should be better off financially because you were there that day. That value is what commands a higher salary.

Anthony Robbins, the motivational speaker, once addressed this issue. He stated that if you have decided you want a particular income you should be able to generate 10 times that amount in value for an employer. In other words if you would like to make $50,000.00 a year you should be generating $500,000.00 worth of value. You can do that by bringing in more sales, improving efficiency thus decreasing costs, and so on.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s tagline is “You can’t just sit behind a desk all the time and think you know what is going on out in the world. You have to go out and see it for yourself. You gotta smell it. You gotta taste it. You gotta see it.” The same idea is true about generating more income by adding value. The most important thing to remember is to get up, get moving, get involved, get to work, and get your hands dirty. Identify a company’s problem and solve it.
