BOWMAN'S MONEY COLLEGE - FINANCIAL EDUCATION WITH STRATEGIES TO SAVE MONEY

Can you judge a book by it's cover?

I have heard some people theorize in past that how you dress is important. Their theory is that you act and feel the way you are dressed. If you are dressed in a suit and tie you will act and feel more mature and professional. If you dressed in ripped shorts, a tank top, and sandals you will act and feel more relaxed and laid back. Job applicants are encouraged to present a clean cut image. The idea is that if your look is organized your potential employer will think your work is organized as well.

A discussion of what the appearance of your financial records says about you.Of course you can’t always judge a book by its cover. I once attended a sales seminar where we were instructed to treat all customers the same, regardless of their dress, because you never really knew how much money was in their bank accounts. Have you ever seen a picture of Albert Einstein with his wild hair? If all I ever knew about his was that picture I would be prone to think he was a mad man not a genius.

One area you can judge something by its looks is your financial records. If you have an area where you keep your financial records (you do have such a place, right?) and you can’t find an electric bill from 3 months ago or the receipt from the brakes you bought 1 year ago with the lifetime warranty your records are looking incomplete. If your receipts, bills, invoices, warranties, estimates, or other records are not filed in an orderly and complete fashion I am willing to bet your personal finances are just as messy as your recordkeeping.
Take a look at the physical appearance of your records. Are they orderly or just a jumble of paper? Could I or someone else unfamiliar with you take a look at your recordkeeping and quickly find specific records? That is how neat your filing and recordkeeping should be. Organized recordkeeping saves you money in many ways and is therefore a necessary step in improving your financial situation.
